Iowa is currently battling about a new gambling bill that would legalize Internet casinos. Unlike in states like Las Vegas, all of the online casinos in Iowa would be put together by local casinos who want to create an online gaming solution. By going ahead and putting themselves on the Internet they would gain an advantage over other casinos in the area, and the state would stand to make a large amount of money off of the new taxes that they would bring in.
The interesting thing about this bill is some of the laws that are being included with it. Unlike in most other states, players will have to go to a local casino and register with them before they can participate online. They will also use GPS location software to make sure that the current computer using the game is actually located within state borders. These measures will help prevent under aged players from participating in the game, and they will keep people from other states from taking advantage of the system to gain access to gambling that is not legal to them. Even with all of the measures taken to prevent the system from being abused, officials are arguing that abuse is going to occur anyway and that they should not go ahead with the system.
