Even though Massachusetts hasn’t even considered online gambling yet, professionals are already picking over the details of a possible online gambling bill. There are two different bills that are being considered in the state, one for an Internet lottery, and the other to open online casino.
The casino bill does not currently have a bad actor clause like many other state gambling bills have begun including. The clause is meant to punish any companies who knowingly ignored the no-gambling laws of the United States a few years ago. With the clause, states will not allow the offending US companies to participate in the online casino industry for 10 years after it has been going. Nevada even took it a step further and decided to punish any foreign companies who ignored the rules and allowed US players join their websites even though it was illegal for them. Those companies are getting locked out of Nevada for 5 years.
As long as no clause is added Massachusetts could end up being a popular state to pick up the companies that aren’t allowed in the other states. It could be a smart tactic to pick up some of the more experienced companies who aren’t going to have success elsewhere.
